In brief Cox Business, AT&T Business, KsFiberNet, Lumen are among the first networks worth checking in Manhattan. The fastest installation and best price usually come from a carrier already lit into the building.
Manhattan is a university town with two things attached that most university towns do not have. The National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility sits on the edge of the Kansas State University campus, and Fort Riley is a short drive west. Between them they put research, biosecurity and defence requirements into a city of fifty five thousand.
Those requirements come with documentation and handling obligations that narrow the carrier field before performance is discussed at all. And the field is already narrow: this is the shortest carrier list of any metro on this Kansas page, which makes checking all of it worth more here rather than less.

Cox is the cable operator here and in Junction City to the west, and AT&T holds incumbent telephone territory. KsFiberNet reaches this market through its member network, which matters more here than in the eastern metros because the ground around Manhattan is independent telco country. Lumen and Segra are worth quoting rather than assuming. Beyond that list the options thin quickly and the honest answer is that this is a two main carrier market.

What is genuinely different about buying here
- Research and biosecurity tenants should expect handling and documentation requirements to decide the carrier shortlist before bandwidth does.
- Agricultural research generates upload heavy traffic from field data, imaging and sensor telemetry. Size on upload, because that is the direction that saturates first on an asymmetrical service.
- Sites out toward Fort Riley and Junction City are a different market from the campus corridor. Distance from the built up area decides whether a quote is a connection or a build.
- Fewer carriers means the first quote is less likely to be a good quote. A real comparison is worth more in this market than in Johnson County.
- Student population creates sharp seasonal swings on shared services around Aggieville and the campus edge.
